Ways to Get a Better Night’s Sleep.

Hey guys! How are you all? I hope you’re enjoying your December. I’ve been known to have trouble sleeping, and thought I would give you guys some helpful tips in order to get yourself a good night’s sleep!

Wash Your Sheets Often.

Now there isn’t a scientific reason why I think this works, I just think that nothing beats getting into a set of clean sheets. It’s just something to help relax your body.

Exercise.

Exercising is a great way to not only improve your mood, but also tires you out. My recommendation would be to not exercise right before you want to go to bed. For some people, exercising before bed might work for them because they might be so exhausted that they will fall right to sleep, but for others exercising can actually wake up your body. You’ll end up having a harder time falling asleep.

Don’t do Work on Your Bed.

You have to train your brain to realize that your bed is a place for you to sleep. If you do work or play games on your bed, your brain won’t associate your bed as a place for you to shut down for the night.

Power Down Electronics at Least 30 Minutes before Bed.

Whether you’d like to think so or not, watching TV or playing on your phone does not help your chances at getting a good night’s sleep. The light from all of these screens actually keep your mind up. Make sure to shut down all of your electronics about 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep. This way, your mind starts getting ready before you want to go to sleep.

I know some people like to have background noise in the background in order to go to sleep. An alternative I would suggest would be to listen to music. You could also get one of those white noise machines.

If you want to entertain yourself a little before bed, I would suggest to read a book or comic before bed.

Melatonin.

I actually cannot take actual sleeping pills, they tend to make me extremely groggy in the morning and make me feel super disoriented. Instead, I take some melatonin pills. Melatonin is a natural hormone that helps relax you. I take these about 30 minutes before I’m about to go to sleep, and they work like a charm.

Chamomile.

Drinking chamomile tea right before bed can also help you get a better night’s sleep. Chamomile is a natural herb that is supposed to help with sleep. Right before bed, I’ll brew a warm cup, add a little bit of honey, and drink it. With the combination of melatonin and chamomile I fall asleep so much quicker!

Sleeping Sprays.

I don’t know if these have been around for long, but I know it’s been hyped about recently. These sprays are something you spray onto your pillow before you go to sleep. The one I’ve been using is this one. I think it really helps me! It has lavender and chamomile in it, so it really soothes and relaxes me. The one I have is a little bit pricey, but considering you only spray once or twice on your pillow a night, this should last you quite a long time.

  1. The whole electronics thing is opposite for me. I have to have my TV on and watch a movie or one of my favorite shows to fall asleep to. (I always set the sleep timer). If I just get into bed, turn the lights off, and try to sleep, I will be wide awake and toss and turn. I think it’s because I have such a loud mind. With nothing to distract my mind, my thoughts will just run rampant. The sound of the TV is calming for me.

Haha I am definitely the sort of person who exercises literally right before bed because it makes me so tired that all I want to do is sleep :’) Love all of these tips and it’s great that you’ve brought up studying/working in bed as this is overlooked by so many people but it can be very detrimental!
